Georgia Power's Nuclear Nightmare: Plant Vogtle

Units 1 and 2 of Hatch Nuclear Plant in Baxley, Georgia have been operational since 1975 and 1979, respectively. In 2002 the licenses were extended to 2034 and 2038.

And then there's Plant Vogtle's nuclear nightmare. A crucial round of testing on Georgia Power’s nuclear expansion at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia has uncovered problems, once again delaying the multibillion-dollar project, company officials told state regulators Tuesday.

Unit 3 was originally slated to be in operation in the spring of 2016, followed by Unit 4 a year later. But the project has been bedeviled by problems that have added billions of dollars in costs beyond what Georgia Power originally told regulators to expect.

Considering there are CONTINUED ISSUES with this project, maybe it's time for MEAG, and other investors, to get a divorce from this horrific project.  Take notes from Plant Hatch in Baxley ... bigger isn't always better!
