Adventures in the 2020 Mazda CX-9 AWD Signature

I recently had the pleasure of driving the 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature.  Its premium features provided a delightfully comfortable atmosphere for my photo assistant and me, as we headed to coastal Georgia.

The suspension proved to be smooth and nimble even on the wet and rugged rural Georgia roads. The turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T delivered a robust 320 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane gasoline (310 lb-ft of torque on 87 octane gasoline and  up to 250 horsepower on 93 octane gasoline (227 horsepower on 87 octane gasoline).  The quick-shifting, six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission produced quite the punch.

Mazda’s predictive i-Activ all-wheel drive is standard in CX-9 Signature and the 2020 CX-9 is the first Mazda vehicle offered with the all-new off-road traction assist feature. This feature can potentially help the driver when adventuring on uneven terrain. When the diagonal wheels lose traction, off-road traction assist will stop, which reduces the engine torque and increases the brake force on the wheels without traction. This transfers power to the wheels still on the ground to help allow the vehicle to regain traction and continue the drive. G-Vectoring Control Plus is also standard for 2020 and further improves the steering response to ensure a smooth, premium driving experience.  Considering it was rather stormy for most of the adventure, these features served us well.

Speaking of adventure, below is a slide show of highlights from our trip:
