Robotaxi Rides in Atlanta: Thanks to Waymo and Uber

While in Atlanta for a visit to the High Museum of Art, I noticed an odd vehicle on Peachtree Street while on the veranda at Refuge Coffee Co.  I pulled out my iPhone and made a photograph.  I saw another one on Northside Drive.  Since I was in the passenger's seat, I was able to make another photograph.  When I got home, I did a bit of research.

Below are my findings:

Waymo has launched its autonomous ride-hailing service in Atlanta, partnering with Uber to offer robotaxi rides through the Uber app. The service covers approximately 65 square miles of the city, specifically from Buckhead to the Capitol View area. Riders can request a Waymo vehicle through the Uber app, and there is no additional cost for using the autonomous vehicles.

  • Uber Partnership:

Waymo is integrating its autonomous vehicles into the Uber platform, allowing users to request Waymo rides through the Uber app. 


  • Service Area:

The initial service area is roughly 65 square miles, encompassing parts of Buckhead and the Capitol View neighborhood. Coming soon to Washington, D.C.


  • No Extra Cost:

Riders who request an UberX, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with a Waymo autonomous vehicle at no additional charge. 


  • 24/7 Availability:

Waymo's service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
