enchanting spot is not only a haven for nature enthusiasts but also holds a
significant piece of history tied to a beloved television icon.
A Historic Retreat
Between 1931 and 1956, this tranquil property was owned by
Fred McFeely, the grandfather of Fred Rogers, famed for his children's
television show. McFeely, a prosperous industrialist from Latrobe,
Pennsylvania, utilized the area as a personal retreat. His estate boasted a
charming cottage, horse stables, a three-car garage, and additional
outbuildings. A unique swimming area was crafted in the creek above the falls,
providing a perfect spot for recreation. Fred Rogers, fondly remembered as Mr.
Rogers, often visited this idyllic site during his childhood, undoubtedly
finding inspiration in its natural splendor.

A Majestic Waterfall
Buttermilk Falls stands as one of the highest waterfalls in
Pennsylvania, cascading gracefully at a height of 46 feet. Waterfalls of this
scale are a rare sight in western Pennsylvania, making it a must-visit for
waterfall aficionados. A well-marked trail leads visitors to the falls, where a
cleverly designed viewing platform provides a unique perspective from behind
the cascading water. It's a refreshing experience, so remember to bring a
raincoat if you plan to venture behind the falls—you’re sure to get a little
wet!
